"I recently had the pleasure
of spending time at the Camelot rooming house in Salt Lake City,
I was working on a project for Sarcos a medical and robots research
group at the Univ of Utah. I live in California and travel a lot,
so the idea of spending months in a hotel just wasn't what I wanted.
I had never looked for a rooming house but knowing I was going to
be near the Univ I thought I would just give it a try.
While looking through craigslist.com I found a posting for the Camelot,
I bounced a few e-mails back and forth with Arthur. After a few
more phone calls I thought why not, so I moved in and I have to
say it turned out better then I had hoped. The people were friendly
the location could not have been better, within a few blocks there
is just about everything you could want, shopping, restaurants,
parks, light rail, a "GREAT" city library, and my favorite
two excellent coffee bars. If you have never been Salt Lake like
me the city is very walker and transit friendly, which makes the
location of the Camelot excellent. I had driven a car out but could
have done without it.
That other stuff you might want to know Arthur the owner lives on
site and is a very up-front guy, it's the kind of place your mother
would approve of.
I would recommended this anyone needing to spend time in Salt Lake,
I know that if he has space Arthur will rent rooms for a few days
I think he is listed in the Hostel Guild.

Do you rent to people who have children?
Yes; please tell us if you're bringing any children-
you need approval to bring any children or teenagers
into the property.
Do
you rent to people who have pets?
No. If you bring a pet into the building or the room,
there will be an extra $200 pet
cleaning fee.
Do
you rent to felons or approve applicants with misdemeanors?
No; Felons
need not apply. We reserve the right to refuse service
to anyone.
Hey
do you have any smoking rooms??
No. Please make sure you smoke outside in the designated
smoking area or 25 feet away from any window or door,
to avoid any additional charges to your card. If a room
smells like tobacco or if you smoke in the room, there
will be an extra $200 cleaning
fee for smoking in the room.
How
do I rebook a room?
1) E-mail
or call us for availability;
2) If you are available in the morning (after 9 a.m.),
you can email us with how many nights, arrival date,
the last 4 digits of the card you booked with previously,
and room type
-or-
3) If you are using a different credit card, you must
rebook the room online at
Note: option 2) saves you a booking fee.
How
can I see one of the rooms?
You can see pictures of some example rooms at www.UT123.com
or you can book a room for one night and check it out;
if you like the room you can extend your stay (before
10 a.m.). Our staff is very busy helping our current
travelers- if you want us to stop what we're doing to
show you a room, then we will charge you a $5 non-refundable
showing fee. Please call us at 801-688-6196, 1 hour
or 30 min before you are ready to see the room from
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
I am between homes. Do you have a room or dorm bed in any of your properties that would be available for someone in my situation? I'm looking for my least expensive alternative. How much would it cost? Yes we do, you can get prices and you can book here with a credit card. We rent all the time to people who are between homes. This allows you time to make sure you move into a good situation without having to rush into a bad roommate or long lease.
I looked through the profile form that I have to fill in before booking a room, but the thing is that I don't know yet what time I arrive in SLC. May I write an approximate time?
Yes you may write an approximate time, as long as you
check-in after 3 p.m. The time requested by the booking
engine is just so we can know more or less at what time
you will be checking in the room.
I'm interested and was wondering if you could call me and feed me a little more information. Please go to our website at www.UT123.com and look for your answers there...if afterwards you still have questions then please e-mail us any specific questions.
Is
there a phone number I can call to get some more information?
If we cannot answer your questions through our website
(www.UT123.com) or through e-mail, then we'll call you.
Next
time I come back, do I need to book again?
Only if you are using a different credit card; if you
are using the same credit card as last time you stayed
with us, then we can make the booking for you, without
you having to book again through the booking engine
(that charges you a booking fee). We will make the booking
for you and e-mail/text you a new reference number(s).
My credit card is Visa Classic and I have only US dollars on it (but it said on you website that a booking fee of 1.00 EUR will be required) So I hope I can book a room with this card? Yes, you can book the room with any card that has dollars or any other currency. Q: What is the most efficient method to check availability, e-mail or phone? A: Always better to e-mail us at Artur4@hotmail.com the dates and specifics for the booking (number of people, and types of rooms needed); this information will allow us to correctly and quickly check online availability. Only call us at (801) 688-6196 during business hours if it is an emergency. Why can't I book a room after hours? All the other hostels in SLC have their office closed after hours- we do the same. Hotels book rooms late at night, not budget accommodations like our guest houses. Why did you cancel my booking and give my room away? I turned up at your hostel only to be sent away, especially when I arrived at 9 p.m. at night.
We are a small Hostel and we do not overbook. So when
someone's
card is declined, we have to cancel the booking so others
can book. We run our Hostel via internet, from 9 a.m.
to 4 p.m. after that time we do not process bookings
for the same day. This is why travelers book in advance,
we charge their card and then they can do their own
self check-in.
Why
do you charge $5 extra if I am a walk-in (pay in person)?
When you pay in person it costs $5 more than if you book online. I am sure you can understand that it takes less work for us to process an online booking than a walk-in booking. Online bookings cost $5 less than if you pay in person or over the phone.

How
do I use the quick check-in PC?
After 3 p.m., on your arrival date, you can
use your confirmation/booking number to get your room
number and keybox combination from the quick
check-in computer inside the hostel. It's as easy
as 1
2
3
. 1) Open the
Internet browser, 2) Type in your booking reference
number, 3) Get your room number and keybox combination.
No other guest house that I know of, has this quick
check-in system; A few hotels have started to successfully
integrate this revolutionary system- they are using
"Self-service
kiosks in hotel lobbies". The quick check-in
system is similar to the check-in kiosks you find in
the airport. Our travelers love it; You can check-in
at 12 a.m., 2 a.m., or any other time (after 3 p.m.)
without having to consult a staff member. If you have
difficulty checking in, the concierge or one of the
management will help you.
| “This
is really a cool hostel (guest house), the new creative
check-in system is just like playing a treasure
finding game! I think this place is even more than
a hostel. It also trains you to self-discipline
and resolve the problems independently. It is in
a very convenient location and has complete equipment,
including kitchen, laundry, WiFi and bicycle...
you just can't miss such a cool place and a self
test!” -Jacob Hsu, Taichung, Taiwan |
I
learned that the check-in facility you have is usually
not manned by any people (and that I will be communicating
with a computer for check-in). In this regard I had
some concerns:
1. Do I need to furnish any particular information
to the computer while checking in?
Yes- the computer will ask you for your booking (or
reference) number. Here are a few examples: 958-123-M-2007,
12701-1234567, 17766-1234567, etc: 69100515. You get
this number when you make your online booking; it's
also emailed to you later, by us. FYI:
We do have staff cleaning rooms and processing
bookings, at certain hours of the day.
2. Also, we will be checking out at around 3:00 or
4:00 AM the next day. So, is it possible to perform
the checkout through that computer as well?
No need to use the computer; the self checkout instructions
are inside your room and/or posted in the common areas.
Using the PC is optional- only if you wish to leave
a comment.
3. Further, in case we have any issues in our hotel
room (common examples : lights not working etc.) who
would we be calling to get
such issues fixed?
801-688-6196 . NOTE: If you get an answering machine,
please leave a message, and wait for at least 15 minutes.
I
want to make a reservation for Sunday night. However,
after tomorrow morning I won't have access to e-mail
until I arrive in SLC. How can I get any codes that
I will need?
As soon as you make a reservation,
the booking engine will give you the address, directions,
and keyless code to get in the building (the building
is always locked). Once in the building, you will have
access to a PC with free Internet, that will allow you
to access your e-mail account and get your express self
check-in instructions (room number and keycode).
Note: The self check-in instructions are e-mailed to
you after we charge your credit card.
I will arrive in SLC at midnight (I will travel by Amtrak from Chicago) will that be to late to check-in to the room? No, it will not be too late to check-in to the room after midnight; you can use the automated self check-in system, as long as you can book the room with your own valid credit card that has your name on it (no prepaid cards); we charge your credit card three days prior to your arrival. Cash bookings only before 10 p.m., and you have to call first, on your arrival date, to check for availability.
I
will get there very late at night, will I be able to
check-in?
Yes,
as long as you remember to write down two things: 1)
The building entrance code and 2) Your confirmation
number. You'll need these to get in the building and
use the quick check-in
computer.
Is your guest house 24 hours? If our flight comes in at 1 a.m., and a few days later we must leave at 4 a.m., is this going to be a problem?
No
problem, because you can check-in anytime after
3 p.m., by using our self quick
check-in computer (for online bookings only, no
walk-ins) ; and you can check-out anytime by
following the simple self-checkout instructions on
the yellow sheet, outside your room door.
Flying
in, so I could be later?
No
problem, as long as you:
1) Know the entrance code,
2) Know your booking number,
3) We can charge your card for the amount due + taxes
and fees, within 3 nights of your arrival.
My
plane arrives at 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday night. So,
I'll probably be about 2:45 a.m. before I get over
there. Do I just sneak into my dorm room quietly?
What I've noticed that works really well is if you
have a cell phone that has a decent back light on
it. The lamplight is good but if you really want to
be discreet, a small light really does the job.
What
time can we check-in to the building and into our room?
Can I check in before 3 p.m.?
You can only check-in to the building and into
your room after 3 p.m. If you need to check-in earlier
or need to store your luggage, then please e-mail us
ASAP at artur4@hotmail.com.
Most rooms are occupied before new guests arrive, we
need to allow time for previous traveler(s) to checkout
and we need enough time to make sure the room is ready
for new guests. If you really need to check-in the room
very early in the morning, then you can pay for the
previous night. We also charge a $5 early check in fee,
if you are checking in between 10am and 3pm.
When do I get the directions and conditions to the property? Right after you book the room with a credit card, the booking engine shows you the directions and property conditions; you'll have the entrance code to get in the building that will allow you to do your own express self check-in. This way if you have to leave on your trip, you already know how to get in the building (you have the keyless code to the building); there is a computer with free Internet that will allow you to check your e-mail to get the room number and key code to your booked room.
Why do I need to pay an extra $5 for booking over the phone? You are paying an extra five dollars because your booking is not an online booking. |
|
|
|
Can
I stay in the building after the 10
a.m. check-out time?
No. After 10 a.m. you need to checkout of the room and
the building. We need to get everything ready for our
guests that will be checking in later in the day. We
charge an extra $5.80, for every additional hour you
stay in the building (before 11 a.m.= $5.80, before
12 p.m. = $11.6, etc.
Can
I extend my booking after 10 a.m.?
No. You cannot stay in the room without a new booking;
If you don't book before your 10 a.m. checkout time,
you'll need to pay a late extension fee from $5 to $20
(depending how late you extend).
I
forgot my keybox code!?
To get keybox code again- please type your original
booking number in one of the check-in
computers (just like you did when you checked in).
What
time do we have to check out of the room?
Checkout by 10 a.m.. If you need to stay longer
please let us know before 10 a.m. so we can check for availability.
What
is your cancelation policy?
=====================
Cancellations:
=====================
Must be made at least 48 hours before your scheduled
arrival day. If you miss this deadline, we are entitled
to charge the equivalent of the first night of your
booked nights. Cancellations or changes made after check-in
are subject to a 100% charge. No
refunds for unused nights, including those resulting
from delayed check-in or early check-out will be given.

| | I’d like to book a private room; I prefer not to use my credit card by Internet, because I think it’s not secure. Is it possible to make the reservation by fax?

the following: (1) Print out a credit
card authorization form (or click here
for a jpg image), completely fill it out, sign, and
date it; (2) Fax us a copy of the "Authorization
to charge credit card" so we can charge your card,
secure you a room, and then e-mail you the confirmation
and necessary information for you to do your express
self-check-in.
Can we mail you a check instead?
We do not accept checks, only credit and debit cards.
Do you have a credit card authorization form? Yes, click here to download, print, and fax (call first to arrange a time to send fax).
Do
I need a credit card to make a reservation?
YES. The booking has to be made with your own credit
card that has your name on it; NO: cash, pre-paid cards,
unemployment cards, employment cards, someone else's
card or felons allowed.
Do
you require payment in advance?
We only hold rooms with a booking and guarantee of funds;
we need to be able to authorize the total amount due
+ taxes and fees, within three nights of your arrival.
If we cannot obtain a payment guarantee (declined credit
card)- your booking will be canceled. Exceptions may
be granted to international travelers with a passport
(not to locals or US residents)- you need to contact
us for an approval.
If I use my credit card, will it be charged right away or will it be charged when I arrive and check in?
It will be authorized (amount frozen on your card) within
three nights of your arrival, so that we can send you
the codes that will allow you to do your own express
self check-in. Notice to Debit Card User: By submitting
your debit card as a method of payment you are authorizing
an approval to be secured on your checking account.
The amount of the approval will be deducted from your
checking account and thus reduce your available balance.
Is
paying by credit card secure?
Absolutely. We are very highly aware of the absolute
security of your personal dates, especially of your
credit card details. All your personal details are 100%
encrypted when transferred over the Internet. If you
are afraid of sending the number of your credit card
by Internet, you do not have to be. Just fill in all
details, print the reservation
form out and send it with your signature by fax (call
801-688-6196 first); You can also give this information
to our reservation department on number: 801-688-6196.
I’ve
made a reservation and just want to know when will be
the payment?
We will authorize your card within three nights of your
arrival. You have to pay before you can check-in. If
you want us to capture the amount now- you will have
to fax us a credit
card authorization form, allowing us to authorize
and capture now, the amount due with taxes and fees.
I've
just never had to go through anything like this to book
a hostel!?
We are different than other hostels- we are a Hostel
and an Inn with a self-check in system.
What
payment options do I have as an individual tourist?
You need to pay with your own credit card that has your
name on it: no cash, prepaid cards, unemployment , employment
cards, or someone else's card. Our credit card system
will decline a prepaid card.
What types of credit cards do you accept? We accept most major credit cards and debit cards, except Switch. |

Everything starts in the center of Temple Square; North Temple Street- passes on the north side of the SLC main temple, South Temple Street on the south of the temple, West Temple on the West of the temple, Main Street is the same as East Temple. Cold

1.
At home several layers of clothing (rather than just
one very thick layer) will keep you warm during the

drinks will make you feel warmer inside.
3. Always wear a cap, hat or headscarf outside, as a
very large proportion of your body heat is lost through
the top of the head.
4. It is also important to wear strong, warm shoes or
boots when you go outside. If your boots are roomy enough
you can put on an extra pair of socks as well. Source:

Heaters...Is
there a heater in my room? How do I turn it on? or could
you do so for each room?
All the rooms have automatic heaters. They are on a
program that turns them on and off automatically.
We have already turned them on. When the temperature
goes down below a minimum programmed, then the heater
turns on automatically.
Each time of the day is different. If you are in the
house all day, then please make sure you wear warm clothers,
drink hot drinks, wear a hat, and use warm boots (please
read "Keep warm, keep well"
article below).
NOTE: You are not allowed to bring in your own electric
heater into the room. The only heater we allow our guests
to bring into the room, is Mr. Heater that runs on gas.
You can buy it at Lowes
hardware store.
Hostel...What
is a hostel?
1. A supervised, inexpensive lodging place for travelers,
especially young travelers. 2. An inn; a hotel. 1
1
Hot
Season...Is there air conditioning in any of your Guesthouses?
We have swamp coolers instead, that cool the common
areas; the rooms have fans inside.
Housekeeping...I
will be extending. I was wondering if my sheets could
be changed tomorrow also?
I'm sorry, we don't do that- we only change the linen
(sheets) of your room and clean it, on the day you checkout
of the room. Hotels do daily housekeeping on their occupied
rooms, but they charge a lot more than we do- we're
a budget accommodation. We pass on the savings to you.
Parking...Do
you have a parking lot for your guests?
Yes, we have our own parking
lot for our guests at no additional cost. If you
book a room for a whole week you can get free covered
parking at
Camelot Guest House or 1700
South Guest House, depending on avaialbility.
Work
exchange....Do you have any work exchange opportunities?
We do not offer work exchange.

| | QUALITY: "It is unwise to pay too much, but it is unwise to pay too little. When you pay too much, you loose a little money; that is all. When you pay too little you sometimes lose everything. Because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. It cannot be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better." John Ruskin 1819 - 1900 Do you have a printer available? Yes. We charge 25 cents per sheet; minimum $1 for one to four sheets printed. Do you rent notebooks (laptops), televisions, and bicycles? Yes, we rent bicycles for $5/day, notebook computers with WiFi for $7/week or $20/day, and TVs for $20/week.
Storage
closet... After I checkout of my room, how do
I get a storage closet?
(1) After you completely checked out of your room, (2)
call us during regular business hours and give us permission
to charge your card an extra $5, (3) so that we can
give you a storage closet just for you, for the whole
day. NOTE: We will program your booking reference number,
so the check-in PC will give you a storage closet and
it's keybox code, so you can use it.
Storage
closet... I understand the check in is after
3:00 p.m., I figured I can leave my luggage in your
lobby, until check in time; is this possible?
You can only check-in to the building
and room after 3 p.m. If you need to check-in
earlier, then you can pay $5 extra and get a big storage
closet just for you. Just call us when you arrive, and
give us permission to charge your card an extra $5.
NOTE: After you store your belongings, you need to leave
the building. Later, after 3 p.m., you can come back
to get your luggage and then check-in to your room.
Storage
closet... How much for storage? Are their
any rules?
The price for a big storage closet is $5/day, just for
you; with the following conditions: You cannot give
the code to anyone else and you must leave the key in
the keysafe, or you'll be subject to a $40 fee.
What fees do you charge?
Please note: 1) taxes and fees are not included in the
price. 2) $5 charge for any bookings made after 4 p.m.,
declined credit cards, early arrivals (before 3 p.m.
and booking change requests).

The transient room tax does not apply to charges for admission to an exercise facility, dry cleaning services, safety deposit box rentals, telephone charges, vending machines sales, video/movie charges, or rooms not used for lodging such as meeting and convention rooms. What
taxes and fees do you charge?

card and processing fees. In the terms and conditions,
you can read that "We add a total of: (1) 16%

Does our room come with admission tickets to Crystal
Hot Springs, and where do we pick them up? (Honeyville

Can
I make a reservation for a friend or a relative?
NO. We do not accept third party payments. The booking
has to be made with your own credit card that has your
name on it, NOT someone else's card.
Do you accept group reservations? Yes, with sufficient notification, we welcome groups. How long does it take to complete the booking procedure? We complete the reservations within few hours, if we receive an online reservation from BOOK NOW - during our opening hours (Monday – Friday 9:00 – 17:00 MST). A maximum time we take to complete the reservation is up to 24 hours due to the time zone. If I pay online, will the system show the total amount I am being debited before I approve the transaction? No, the system will give you a total price before taxes and fees. We add a total of 16% for taxes and fees. Is it necessary to book in advance? Yes, especially during the main seasons, when we are usually booked up, we recommend you book a room two months in advance. Is it possible to pay you in cash when I check-in instead of paying online? I can use a debit card, but would rather pay cash and get a receipt.
We do not allow walk-ins. The building is always locked.
The keyless entry code to get in the building will show
up on the screen immediately after you book the room
with a credit card. After we charge your card, authorize.net
will send you an electronic receipt via e-mail. We do
not accept cash, we charge your card the full amount
due before you arrive.
Is it possible to pay with cash/money order? I'm in the room and I'd like to extend my stay.
No cash; Money order payment is acceptable only for
certain exceptions which must be discussed with management.
What is the latest time to make a reservation over your system? It is safer for you to reserve two days before the date of check in – for last minute reservations please contact our reservation department artur4@hotmail.com. What do I have to mention in my reservation request? Please send us a fully filled reservation form, BOOK NOW, or simple request, so that we can treat you with the most efficient service. When you are not using the reservation form your request should include: your name, e-mail, phone number (when available), date of your arrival, date of departure, the amount of people (rooming list), and type of room desired (single, double, dorm). thank you. | | Why do you have cameras? The main reason we have cameras in all our properties is so that we can better assist our guests with the self check-in process. The cameras also help deter crime. FYI: Our highest ratings are in security and cleanliness. Why do you have two dead bolts in each room? To provide extra security for our guests.
